Why Corneal Thickness Matters for High Power
For high powers (above -6), more corneal tissue is removed during SMILE PRO. You need adequate corneal thickness (at least 480 microns) to remain safe and structurally sound after surgery. Our pre-op examination checks this precisely using corneal topography.
If SMILE PRO is Not Suitable — What Are Your Options?
ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)
A thin lens implanted inside the eye — no tissue removed. Works for powers up to -20. Excellent for thin corneas and very high powers.
SMILE PRO + Residual Power
For powers between -8 and -10, SMILE PRO may reduce power significantly (e.g., from -9 to -1 or -2) with minimal remaining specs.
Phakic IOL
Similar to ICL. A premium lens option for high myopia patients not suitable for surface ablation.
Refractive Lens Exchange
Replacing the natural lens with a premium artificial one. More suitable for patients over 45 with high power.
